Duties of the New Mexico Lieutenant Governor
Presides as President of the New Mexico Senate, overseeing legislative sessions and maintaining order.
Acts as Governor when the Governor is out of state or unable to serve..
Serves as an ombudsman for constituent concerns, helping citizens navigate state agencies and resolve issues.
Member of the Executive Cabinet and serves on key boards and commissions, including the State Board of Finance, Border Authority, Children’s Cabinet, Community Development Council, Military Base Planning Commission, Mortgage Finance Authority, Spaceport Authority, and Youth Alliance.
Keeps records and submits annual reports to the Governor.
Supports and advances state priorities in areas such as education, infrastructure, and economic development.
How I Will Make the Office Better

Promote cross-agency collaboration and stakeholder engagement, drawing on experience working with diverse teams and international partners to build consensus and deliver results.

My Experience Serving Rural New Mexico
Served as councilman and mayor pro tem for Loving, NM, gaining firsthand knowledge of rural challenges.
Appointed by the Governor as one of seven State Emergency Response Commissioners, providing statewide leadership in emergency preparedness and response.
Served as Deputy Director of the local food pantry, supporting food security and addressing hunger in the community.
Addressed critical water system upgrades and the struggle to secure grants due to limited local resources.
Supported local police departments and worked to address issues like homelessness, drugs, and crime.
Preserved community culture by improving cemeteries and adding water sprinklers to parks and cemeteries.
Enhanced quality of life by installing new playground equipment and starting a Senior Citizens Center.
Approved and supported the development of a new youth recreation center and community center.
Strengthened emergency response by collaborating with the county to build one of Eddy County’s top fire and emergency service facilities.
